Comments: Great site--I was a little kid when the WFL played (and grew up in an NFL city--Cleveland...who by the way was lifted up as a site for a 1974 franchise by Nick Mileti, the owner of the Cavs and the Crusaders. Gary Davidson turned the idea down, thinking there was not room for two football teams in the city). But I have always been interested in the WFL ever since it was brought up by people when criticizing the USFL in the early 80's. Ever read the book "While the Gettin's Good--Inside the WFL"?

Comments: What a wonderful league! It was full of showmen. John Bassett of Toronto started the Memphis franchise when the Canadian government said "go away". I went to all the home games at the Liberty Bowl. I even went to Birmingham and Philadelphia to see the Southmen play the American and Bell respectively in 1974. I still have quite a collection of decals and bumper stickers from most teams. I loved the WFL...!!!

Comments: Well, its the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the WFL... what do we do? A moment of silence? naaaaahhh. It was alot of fun to watch and its alot of fun to search for WFL artifacts. Hope to see more of these types of sites, and its good to see interest still in the league. As for the 500% massage of the attendance numbers...I believe that Philadelphia was the only major transgressor. I attended only 2 games (as I was only 12) but there were full stadiums both of those times and it was a thrill to be there.

Comments: Very interesting information . . . As a CFL fan, I can't help liking a lot of the "rule changes" (with the exception of course of moving the uprights to the front of the end zone ;->)

Sounds like it could have been a great league!!

Thanks for making this info available!!!!

If any of you guys are ever up to Toronto and want to catch an Argos game . . . .

Comments: Excellent sites on both WFL USFL
Although the Attendances given for WFL games should be taken with a pinch of salt!
Apparently they were massaged at the time by up to 500%!!
Any info ie box scores would be a great help

Comments: The W.F.L. was great. When I was 11, (1974) I got to see my all-time favorite football player, Larry Csonka, when Memphis came to Portland. I would never have gotten to see him if he had stayed in Miami.
