I was a season ticket holder for the Jacksonville Sharks and Express.
Many fond memories of those days (even though the Sharks always seemed to
lose games in the last minute of play). |

My sister went to high school with Andy Sanchez, who played for the
Memphis Southmen in the WFL. I would appreciate it if anyone could send
me any info on his playing days. Thanks in advance. |

I saw a little bit about the wfl and i want to know more about it i
wish that it would have lasted it a shame to see stuff like that happen
iam not old enough to have seen any of the games but that all right I still
wish this league and the XFL was still going strong am a big football fan
but when the NFL is over the only thing that we have to watch is Arena Football
which i love watching that but it not the same as out door football people
say all the time the wish there was othe football league out there but people
got to support the new league the come out if it has to do any thing with
football i watch it i even some time watch CFL just so i can watch the game
so it nice to see people making a web about the old WFL |

How many current teams can trace their names to the WFL? I can think
of the Chicago Fire (MLS), Charlotte Hornets (NBA) and Houston Texans (NFL).
Were there any others? |

Can you help?
I'm trying to date a game from 75 played in Memphis between The Southmen
and The Charlotte Hornets.
According to this site it was Sunday August 9th but when I check the calendar
for 1975 that day was actually a Saturday?
A friend of mine tells me that the second season of the WFL was played on
Sunday nights and that was one of the reasons for it's downfall in that
it conflicted with the NFL.
So when was this game played, can you help with the correct day/date?
Thanks in anticipation. |

yeah I remember the WFL! I loved the funky uniforms and the play was
ok. I was a little upset that they lured a key member of the 72 Redskins
away, Charlie Harraway,..Larry Brown never ran the same again w/o Harraway
blocking for him |

I was a boy when the WFL got started, I hated it because they "stole"
the core of the Miami Dolphins team. But my hatred didn't last long, as
the WFL produced some exciting games and great innovation. It wasn't the
NFL, but it was close. I couldn't believe it when the WFL folded, and the
void it left behind. It seemed like forever until the USFL got started.
The WFL needs to be preserved, and footage of old WFL games needs to be
gathered and presented in a professional documentry style DVD, much like
has been done with basketball's ABA.
Long live the Portland Storm! And long live the WFL! |

Preserve the past, remember it, share it with friends and associates.
I remember all of the past defunct Leagues, from the old AFL, and AAFC,
to the WFL, USFL and the WLAF. And the CFL too, no it is not defunct but
it has been around longer than the NFL or its former League title APFA 1919,
the NFL didn't come into effect until 1920, and the CFL still has a good
25 years on us. They must be doing something right. Just like you, keep
the flame burning, knowledge is remembering. |

I enjoyed the WFL and remember things like the "actionpoint", the "dickerod",
and the palomino yellow football. I remember the TVS telecasts (on WOR-TV,
Channel 9 in New York) with Merle Harmon and Alex Hawkins. I even attended
a WFL game: 10/16/74 Shreveport at Philadelphia when 750 of us were in attendance
in the old JFK Stadium. I still have the program from that night, although
it's not in great shape. I'm glad the league is remembered. Hang in there,
Hail the WFL, and God Bless America. |
