Comments: I still remember watching the WFL games televised by WUTV -Grande Island NY (Buffalo suburb.) Back in those days the CFL teams would bolster their rosters with late cuts from the NFL teams during August and early Sept. I still remember watching late CFL cuts moving to the WFL weeks later. Much to the league's embarassment the colour commentator Alex Hawkins described most of the action on the field most nights as sloppy. We Canadians could have told him that many of the players were double rejects. They had been cut by the NFL and CFL.

Comments: I still remember watching one of the first games So. Cal vs. Birmingham it ended up being a low scoring game 8-7 in favor of the Birmingham Americans. I can^t even rember who was playing on the teams I Think Charlie Harraway for the Americas and I think Tony Adams for the Sun, but after all these years I would be just guesing. But I do remember how it was found out that they were under financed and that was when was reported that attendance was padded. if they had come in with the proper financing and management people it might of lasted longer, maybe it might not be around today but it might of lasted longer than it did.

Comments: my recently deceased father, harry c. uthoff, was an official(head linesman) for the wfl in 1974-1975. i still have his entire uniform in brilliant blue/white/gold. he cherished his his time with the league and i have many fond memories as a child getting to travel to the games with him and roam the sidelines amongst the "giants in pads."

Comments: Tommy Reamon, was the co-MVP and leading rusher of the WFL's Florida Blazers in the 1974 season. His brother Charles Reamon played defensive back for the Birmingham Americans and Chicago Fire in 1974. We actually played against each other in Ala. stadium. Great to have our website back in motion.

Comments: I was 11yrs old when my beloved B'ham Americans played and won the first and only World Bowl. My Dad wouldn't take me to the game because it was pouring ran and cold. After the game sheriffs deputies confiscated the uniforms and equipment of the players because the owners couldn't pay the bills. What a shame for these guys to go out that way. The trophy from the World Bowl was recently found and is now in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. A pipe fitter working on renovations at Legion Field found it in a box hidden away in a back room, thought it looked intersting and asked what it was. What a great piece of football history!!! Go Americans!!
