The World Football League All-Pro team was selected by sportswriters,
sportscasters, and WFL coaches to pick the very best players from the WFL's 1974
season. *Some positions have more than one player listed while the All-Pro
Defensive team listing did not list three positions: defensive end, linebacker,
and safety. Thus, the WFL website owners have added these positions and players:
Gerry Philbin (DE), Rudy Kuechenberg (MLB), and Jeff Woodcock (Safety) to the
WFL All-Pro team. Below is a list of names that were awarded:
World Football League Awards
Defensive Player of Year - Eddie Sheats, Florida Blazers
Offensive Player of Year - J.J. Jennings, Memphis Southmen
Rookie of Year - Tommy Reamon, Florida Blazers
Most Valuable Players - Tony Adams, Southern California Sun, Tommy Reamon, Florida Blazers, J. J. Jennings, Memphis Southmen
Coach of Year - Jack Pardee, Florida Blazers
Disclaimer: This information was obtained from Al Thomy,
formerly a sportswriter with the Atlanta Constitution. In 1974, Thomy wrote a
story on Alfred Jenkins leaving the Birmingham Americans of the WFL, to sign
with the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL. Although the sportswriter mentions the WFL
All-Pro team, he did not mention how this information for the All-Pro team was
obtained, thus, the World Football League never published this information, and
the WFL website obtained the information strictly from the article.
